Insurance & Payment

When I started this practice, I chose not to be in-network with private insurance. This allows me to provide relationship-based, child-centered care without the restrictions or limits insurance companies often place on services.

Medicaid and CHP+

Because of how Medicaid and CHP+ work in Colorado, private pay practices are prohibited from providing services to clients who have active Medicaid or CHP+ coverage, even if a family wishes to pay out-of-pocket. Children and families with Medicaid or CHP+ must access care through an in-network provider.

I’m unable to bill Medicaid or CHP+, and cannot provide out-of-network paperwork for reimbursement.
I understand this can feel frustrating, and I’m happy to provide referrals to trusted in-network providers if needed.

Using Out-of-Network Benefits (Commercial Insurance)

Many families with commercial insurance choose to use out-of-network benefits to help offset the cost of therapy. If you plan to do so, please let me know when we begin services.

I’ll provide a monthly superbill and CMS-1500 form so you have what you need to submit claims.
I also have a simple tip sheet with questions to ask your insurance plan so you know what to expect before submitting.

To streamline the process, many families use Reimbursify, a service that makes it easier to file claims and troubleshoot denials.

A Quick Note About Documentation

Insurance companies sometimes request clinical documentation to determine whether services meet their medical necessity criteria. When appropriate, relevant documentation can be provided for review.

No Surprises Act and Good Faith Estimate

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE) explaining the cost of the mental health services to be provided to you. Under the No Surprises Act (passed in December 2021), all health care providers including mental health providers, are required to provide clients who do not have insurance or are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for services to be provided.

New clients will receive a Good Faith Estimate Notification and agreement form as part of the intake paperwork to review and sign. I am open and transparent with my fees ($165/50 minute session) so that clients are able to know up front the financial investment they are making by pursuing and engaging in ongoing treatment. Clients should expect to start with an investment of 16-20 weekly therapy sessions (allowing for some fluctuation due to client or therapist schedule) and 3-4 parent consultaiton sessions. Frequency of sessions may increase or decrease depending on treatment phase, goals, and client progress.

A GFE will provided in writing upon completion of their initial assessment. GFE will include diagnosis (as required by the No Surprises Act), services to be provided, frequency of services, and total cost of services. GFE is provided annually or whenever there is an update to the services agreed upon, change in fee for services, or significant change in frequency. You can request a GFE before you schedule services (however I will not provide a diagnosis until completion of initial assessment which can take 2-3 sessions as I do not find it ethical to make a diagnosis based on limited information and before I have met the identified client), and it does not serve as consent/or agreement to services.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For ongoing clients, each GFE provided will be part of your medical record.
